The magnificent season opener boasted music imagined by some of the greatest composers of the Baroque period (approximately 1600-1750.) The featured work was Cantata #106 by Johann Sebastian Bach, accompanied by a select orchestra. This engaging piece was supplemented by sacred and secular works from Alessandro Scarlatti, Henry Purcell, George Frideric Handel, and Heinrich Schutz. We continued our affiliation with the Walla Walla Symphony for this marvelous show. Together we performed the final movement of Beethoven's Symphony No. 9 and "Make Our Garden Grow" from Leonard Bernstein's Candide. |
In our annual pops concert we reviewed popular music of the 20th century, decade by decade. If you were born before 1999, you were sure to have heard some of your favorite tunes. |
Our second annual Evening to Remember event was even more exciting and entertaining than last year! The evening began at 6:30 with a Social Hour, with dinner following at 7:30. Entree options were stuffed chicken breast, baron of beef, or vegetarian pasta primavera, which were served with an assortment of succulent side dishes. Musical entertainment featured--back by popular demand--the Velvet Voice of Rich Young, along with selections by the Choral Society. Throughout the evening we held Raffles and Balloon Bursts for a variety of valuable prizes, with the Grand Raffle Prize being a weekend getaway trip for two at one of two resorts. Please plan to attend our third dinner in 2009. |
We rejoined the Walla Walla Symphony for a rousing performance of Gustav Mahler's Symphony No. 2, "The Resurrection," as we closed out another grand season of choral music. |
